Dear Friends of Christ,
You may have heard that a church in Yuma opened its doors for worship last Sunday morning. And I am sure more churches will be holding services on their campus this Sunday. What’s changed? Last Thursday the Attorney General sent out an opinion that the state can’t ban religious services outright, but it doesn’t authorize packing places of worship, either. Congregations are encouraged to follow physical distancing guidelines.
It is important we are reminded our mission is for all people to know the grace and truth of Jesus Christ and desire to grow in their relationship with Jesus by being in worship, in His Word, and in service to their neighbors. We can’t fulfill our mission if we have to turn people away because of numbers or if people have to register for a service. We want all people who worship on our campus to feel welcomed, loved, and cared for by our Christian community.
Therefore, after prayer, meeting with our Board of Elders, meeting with area pastors, and surveying our congregation we have decided to continue on-line worship only for a few more weeks. Another important point is that we didn’t want to hold services on campus while we still have Yuma Lutheran School operating only online. We believe this is best for our congregation at this time regardless of what other churches are doing. Every church needs to do what is best for their community. We will be assessing the situation, and as long as the virus doesn’t get worse, in two weeks we will send out a definite date of when we will come back together.
When we gather again in person for worship we want to be ready and help people feel safe on our campus. We will continue to live stream our services, even after we gather in person, so that those who feel like they can’t come or are sick can still connect with us online. Our bigger vision is that we will connect with even more people than we have with on campus worship only and they will be strengthened in their faith or come to know Christ. Just imagine more people coming to faith in Jesus because we connected with them through our digital platforms.
Thank you for your grace and patience through this trying time. If there is anything you need, please let us know. We love you and can’t wait for the day when we can see each other face to face.
